AI, Chat GPT & CO [ENGLISH VERSION]

Dernière mise à jour : 26 juil. 2023

👉English version #AI #ChatGPT

I like to experiment things for sure ! And as this world is evolving and quite quickly, it's also necessary to adapt our skills and if it’s possible to gain some time intelligently, why not !

Few years ago, I’ve been directing a Human Resources and Communication department for a company specialized in fundraising for NGO. We used several tools for analytic, whether for financial, HR or productivity aspects but also to facilitate our management. Whatever, time is very precious for any company and correlated to efficiency and to consolidate turnover for sure !

Anyway, today I mainly tested ChatGPT because I develop many activities and for which I need to strengthen my communication and also save time. And it’s amazing regarding the writing of articles or post for example. I gave some keywords to edit a post on the subject “How I stopped to smoke”. Result : Chat GPT edited in less than 2 minutes something quite generic but true. However as a former smoker and as one can imagine, I’ve been through this particular phase with lots of emotional ups and downs that the system did not relay. So I had to correct the text a little and personalise some aspects of this past journey. What’s interesting also is that Chat GPT made a quite correct translation to French. Way much better than the Google translator system. I gain some time then. You can also order a poem if you want, just by giving key words ! And probably the texts produced could make some artists pale!

This led me to a prior question because I’m a also a writer and poet and many of my poems are driven by my emotions and perceptions which are particular and unique to me. We are all unique. And what makes poetry particular to me is the signature through time and space, an emotion shared that animated not only our pulpit but also our souls. And for sure I still consider very important the merit of any action that gives a value to human. And if I'm enthusiastic by evolution in general, for sure I prefer to write my own poem driven by my sensitivity and play the "Legend of Zelda" on GameBoy!

On the other hand, I’ve been organising lots of writing workshops by the past and the process of creation is something precious but also easy to impulse when we have the right keys. What's sure imagination is essential to human in order to move things forward to build the future. So another question arises, isn’t it a brake on evolution, resourcefulness and ability to think by ourselves ? And when many people hide already behind superficial realms rather than working on themselves. Because today, many of us lost sense of direction - literally and figuratively - with the inability - for example - to find our own way in a city without using GPS. I don't question the GPS system that I find useful also, it saves time in many aspects. But isn't it already a race of time where we forget to look around ?

Recently, I presented some of my past work at the University of Tallinn in Estonia - Audiovisual section. In 2014, I participated in the development of the first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in France with the University of Nantes among other partners. Back then, I was coordinating a web media called Studio Mobile 360 and for this occasion, we created 5 videos - episodes around the digital issue in our modern world to provide a better understanding of the different uses of digital technology and in particular risky uses and addictions.

It was almost 10 years ago and today, in 2023 for many it’s a race against time and where it's easy to lose our sense of control. Another example, eras ago every children were able to read the constellations in the sky and only decades ago, every children were readers and mostly able to construct a capacity of critic analysis outside the box. Today, we facilitate everything, commandant the knowledge without absorbing its substance.

So I wonder, are we creating a generation of lazy people ? What merit will we have in editing content so simply now ? Isn't this a way of pretending to have knowledge that many do not have? And how can we ensure that our children will be well supported in the use of these new technologies?

Image recognition system

I tried another prompt ‘The image recognition system’.

Well, I think there’s still some work to do here also ! Where’s the cat ? "My feline companion" Hahaha !

So, will AI replace humans?

Well, if today we replace a cashier at the supermarket AI is far from replacing humans. Be sure of that !

In a conference animated by Luc Julia (co-creator of Siri and Chief Scientist Officer for Renault Group ) called “AI doesn’t exist !”, he goes back to the history of Artificial Intelligence. It’s fascinating ! For a brief example, he explains that an informatic system needs 100 000 datas to recognize a cat and to be sure it is really a cat. He asked a child psychiatrist how many cat replicas would need his daughter to recognise a real cat ? Well, only 2 ! On the other way our brain needs 20 watts to play a virtual game versus 440 kw for a machine. And humans do a lot of other things in parallel with their brain ! He remembered us as well that AI doesn’t create anything. Everything comes from an idea. So we – human - still decide what’s good or wrong.

This conference was very interesting because Luc Julia gives lots of examples through time that helps to understand better what all this is really about. It's in French but you can easily follow with the subtitles.

So, as we remain responsible of our creations, the next question is probably about regulation. The occasion to share with this video The Urgent Risks of Runaway AI – and What to Do about Them by Gary Marcus. It's a bit more alarmist but it's better to ask ourselves the right questions now!

Either way, we definitely need to regulate the AI (sounds a bit odd as the scope is so vast!) and probably educate people to prevent abuse. But it's like everything, isn't it? So, a lot of work to do... And at the time I bring some corrections to this article, we can rejoice ourselves because a few days ago the United States took a first step and :

Seven US based technology firms signed an agreement to regulate content generated by Artificial Intelligence with US President Joe Biden at the White House. The Tech companies also agreed to watermark any content that would be generated by AI. Companies include Meta Platforms, Google’s parent firm Alphabet, ChatGPT maker OpenAI and several more. Find out more.

My conclusion so far

It's funny because I have a lot of articles to finish but I wrote this one in just a few hours! So at least I can be grateful that I was motivated and driven by the topic to post a new article! And so far, I've written it myself. It may be less perfect than the AI, which uses perfect grammar and syntax, especially for the English version. Anyway, I can be satisfied that I wrote this article myself and also created the first image. In any case, let's consider AI & Chat GPT as a powerful tool that increases human capacity and saves us time.

But because I’m motivated, I will probably write another article ! I want to push my experiment and test another option which is :

I am also a transformational engineer and I really give value to humans' interactions. So it makes me really curious ! For sure I let you know how was my session with this AI Therapist !

Finally, it's impossible to make any link with Science Fiction. It brings me back to amazing movies as well like HER an American science-fiction romantic drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Spike Jonze in 2013. Or all the Blade Runner and starting with Philip K. Dick's novel in 1968. Following by the first adaptation by Ridley Scott in 1982 until the Blade Runner 2049 by Dennis Villeneuve. Amazing as well ! I recommend :)

We can surely go back in time with the movie Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick and make the parallel with the Tay AI chatbot created by Microsoft in the early 90’ that ended up to be a racist system! Funny story that Luc Julia explains quite well also in his conference. Anyway, there are many references, many books and films that animate the imagination and probably our capacity of discernment. So let's stay curious !

I published this article before the Mindvalley AI summit hosted by Vishen Lakhiani with Naveen Jain an amazing entrepreneur. This will be an opportunity to write another article after these three days of seminar and share my new discoveries. What we can remember in brief is that it's important to get on the train, to be informed and by learned how to use these new technologies, we can clearly facilitate our work, our life and also optimize our time.

So It's definitely worth looking into;)

By now lots of love and wonders :)
